The amount and specifications of soil data and soil information infrastructures differ across Europe due to differences in needs, methods and knowledge between countries. Harmonized methods and data infrastructures will allow easier sharing of soil data in Europe, which is essential for research and for policy advice on agricultural land.
Year-round soil cover, organic matter additions and a reduction of traffic on agricultural land. Are these the management practices that will restore and strengthen Europe’s soils? No single management practice can be the one solution for all soils and climates: context is key!
‘Resources, Infrastructure and Capabilities Inventory (RICI)’ is an online platform for policy stakeholders. RICI provides access to a pool of specialized scientists and experts at local, regional and national level across Europe. The online searchable inventory is the ‘Yellow pages’ on expertise on soil science in relation to questions for policy matters.
The emergence of soils in the political field is impressive. This raises many questions and challenges scientists in developing and sharing the needed knowledge and contributing to the public debate on soil management and soil related policies.
Identified points of EJP SOIL evidence of contribution in relation to the objectives and policy options of a Soil Health Law perspective.
The overall objective of this 3rd internal call is to fund research projects open to EJP SOIL beneficiaries and linked third parties to fill research and development gaps identified by the “Roadmap for the European Joint Program SOIL” and the annual work program of the EJP SOIL for year three.
Licentiate student in Soil Nutrient Cycling focusing on organic
matter dynamics for a research project evaluating whether aboveground plant trait diversity affects the metabolic
response of soil microorganisms to carbon inputs.
This call will be open April 2022 with a closing date for proposals in September 2022.
The objective of this call is to foster farm management practices, which contribute to climate change mitigation and adaptation.
The European Commission is looking for the best innovative ideas to advance the protection and restoration of soil health in Europe. Apply by 24 March 2022.
A database of European long-term field experiments data related to carbon sequestration enables maps and data for agricultural management options. These options take theoretical, biophysical and environmental, technical and economic constraints and potentials into consideration.
