Knowledge exchange is the essence of the Virtual Academy
Working remotely during the pandemic often felt a bit isolating, and there was little opportunity for knowledge exchange with our EU-wide colleagues. The beauty of the Virtual Academy lies in its simplicity: monthly online 30-minute-meetings with presentations followed up by open fruitful discussions.
Working remotely during the pandemic often felt a bit isolating, and there was little opportunity for knowledge exchange with our EU-wide colleagues. These exchanges and discussions are the essence of European projects, but are also motivating and stimulating. The monthly Virtual Academy was launched to aid this vital communication across projects and to develop a sense of project community and belonging for both students and researchers.
Initially planned as a task of the CM1 MaxRoot-C/MIXROOT-C projects to connect the four CM1 and CM5 projects, the monthly Virtual Academy has increasingly gained recognition among EJP Soil community.
Strong communication and a vibrant active network within the community
The beauty of the Virtual Academy lies in its simplicity: it is a monthly online 30-minute-meeting with a presentation followed up by open fruitful discussions.
The outcome, however, is by far more extensive. The meetings strengthen communication and develop a vibrant and active network for the EJP SOIL community to share knowledge and ideas.
The monthly meetings give the opportunity for students and researchers to present results or scientific papers of interest, share methods (Standard operating procedures- SOPs) and to develop collaborations. It also provides the opportunity for monthly News updates, these will also be posted on slack.
Students and researchers are encouraged to make slides and recordings of their presentations available on the data sharing platform ‘BOKU Drive’ and to provide articles and content about their research for the EJP SOIL Newsletter Task 9.4.3. We particularly want to encourage students and researchers to be active on social media by producing updates- videos and podcasts about their methods and research.
