Annual Science Days: Dr. Lutz Merbold to participate in the panel ‘Healthy Soils under climate resilient production systems in 2040’

It is our absolute pleasure to announce, that Dr. Lutz Merbold has agreed to participate as part of the panel ‘Healthy Soils under climate resilient production systems in 2040’.

Panelists are asked to position themselves in 2040, look back and describe the progressions in science, political decisions, capacity building, citizens engagement, etc that took us from here to there.

The panel session kicks of day two of Annual Science Days in Aarhus the 6th and 7th of October this year.

Dr. Lutz Merbold serves as Head of the Strategic Research Division Agroecology and Environment and is member of the Executive Board of Agroscope.

As a system ecologist and biogeochemist with a strong foundation in agricultural systems, his work focuses on the complex interactions between soils, plants, land use, greenhouse gas emissions, and the global climate. With a background in biology and a PhD in agricultural sciences, he has spent over 15 years working at the intersection of ecosystem research, atmospheric measurements, and sustainable land management jointly with scientists, decision makers and farmers.

Through his work at institutions including the Max-Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH), the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), Agroscope and collaborative networks such as the Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases, the Agroecology Coalition, FluxNet and the OneHealth Platform Germany, he aims to support evidence-based policies that promote food security and nutrition while mitigating and adapting to climate change
